General Facilities
The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established and moulded in 1997 keeping in view, the broad objectives of Technical education in general and specific needs of Power Engineers in particular. The Dept. is accredited by Institution of Engineers in 2005. The Department has qualified & experienced faculty and adequate & well furnished laboratories to cater to the needs of the students as per the university norms & curriculum. A centre called ‘RENEWABLE ENERGY CLUB’ under the auspices of Ministry of Renewable Energy Sources was started in Aug. 2006. The Dept. is responsible for Electrical maintenance of the entire Institution & also for the manning & operation of 200KVA Diesel Power House.
Faculty
Dr. K.Ramesh Reddy, a young and dynamic personality with vast teaching
experience & having many publications (both at national & international
level) to his credit, who is also Dean of PG affairs heads the
Department. He is ably supported by a team of dedicated faculty
comprising of six Associate Professors and 09 Assistant Professors.
Two Associate Professor are former General Managers of BHEL with
vast field experience. On the strength of their wide experience & abundant
knowledge the senior faculty of the department are providing effective
academic guidance and impart leadership qualities to the students.
Almost all the faculty in the dept. are post graduates. Four of
the Associate professors have registered for Ph.D.
PG Course
The first PG course of the Institution in “Power Electronics & Electric
Drives” was started by the Department in July 2004. A full
fledged laboratory, “Power Electronics & Electric Drives
Lab” with internet facility has been established at a cost
of Rs. 08 Lakhs. About 75% of the first batch students have already
obtained their degree and are well settled.
LABORATORIES:
The Department has good lab facilities with equipment of latest
technology. No compromise was made on the quality & quantity
of the equipment. The department is self sufficient in that, it
has all the laboratories required namely Electro mechanics lab,
Networks lab, Control systems lab, Power Electronics Lab, Measurements
lab and Simulation of Electrical Systems lab. The total cost of
equipment contained in all these laboratories is Rs.66 Lakhs.
Internet connection is provided in the cabins of all the faculty members of the Department. The department has started its own library and has about 300 titles which include books on latest topics like, Neural Networks, Automation of Distribution systems, FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) & Power Qaulity etc. The R&D cell of the dept. housed in the dept. library caters to the students aspiring to carry out mini projects of innovative nature. The students are also provided with adequate computing facilities. “TEJASS”, the departmental students technical association, provides a platform for the students to exhibit & improve their skills. To boost their technical awareness and instill confidence “The Institution of Engineers (India) students chapter” was started in 2006. There is one well furnished common room for the students of the department.
